Merlin Entertainments, who are already developing resorts in Shanghai, Sichuan and Shenzhan, reportedly plans to break ground on the new Legoland Park in the Fangshan District of Beijing this year.
A report from South China Morning Post revealed that when Beijing announced its annual economic plan for 2023 that the country seeks “to initiate the construction of Legoland.” Although the company has not yet officially announced the Beijing project, the attraction is said to span an area of 304,000sq m with a theme park and hotel.
The other Legoland resorts in China include: Legoland Shenzhen, which is a 580,000sq m resort expected to open in 2024 with a cost of more than $1bn. Legoland Shanghai, which is set to be one of the largest Legoland resorts in the world, will also open in 2024. Legoland Sichuan is due to launch this year.
John Jakobsen, Chief Operating Officer for Legoland Resorts Group said in a recent interview about the Sichuan project: “This will be a very large development. And, actually, that is the case for all three projects we now have under contract in China. They are going to be big, compared to what we would normally develop.”
