Hotel ‘Mia’ designed by Luis García Fraile, is a new hotel within the Room Mate Hotels collection in the middle of Imperial Rome (Via Capo d’Africa 54). The chain, founded by Kike Sarasola, is committed to excellence and premium design with emphasis on creating spaces of sanctuary that also become the start of an adventure, doorways into the heart of the city.
This superior four-star hotel, surrounded by traditional trattorias and wine bars, is just a five-minute walk from the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, with a magnificent rooftop terrace where breakfast, drinks and snacks are served. A sublime place to stay with the best views of Rome.
The building is unique and the archaeological remains that surround it make it simply spectacular. Originally a school built at the beginning of the 20th century, it presents a neoclassical façade and has three floors. Palm trees flank the entrance, embellishing it and giving a nod to the upscale interiors inside.
Kike Sarasola said: “Rome is one of my favourite cities and a place to visit whenever the opportunity arises. I am happy to be able to open our second hotel in the city and I am sure that Mia will delight travellers. Italy continues to be a priority market and I love having the opportunity to continue growing there.”
The hotel is dog friendly, has a gym, restaurant, bar and 24/7 concierge. It also has four spaces for events and meetings: Sala Querceti, Terraza Santi Coronatti, Sala Navicella Room (with a private rest area) and the Coronati Room.
INTERIORS
Following the ethos of Room Mate Hotels where “the best way to travel is visiting friends”, the chain presents Mia as an embodiment of Roman elegance: a magnetic, cosmopolitan and utterly sophisticated woman. Always impeccable, she glides through the eternal city wrapped in retro silks that seem to tell stories of golden ages. Mia walks through contemporary art galleries with the same finesse with which she has lunch on exclusive terraces, or strolls at sunset among the cobbled streets of Trastevere.
A lover of art, travel and beauty in all its forms, Mia radiates light wherever she goes. With this concept, the interior designer Luis García Fraile has captured that vintage Italian charm when it comes to decorating the different rooms in a style that combines modern and classic touches, ecological solutions and silent luxury.
In the lobby, noble woods and 1920s-style furniture are draped in vivid shades of blue and jewel green, the hallmark of García Fraile.
The hotel has 65 rooms: five executive, 34 superior, 11 triple and 15 Deluxe; all spacious and with high ceilings in the same tones as the lobby, with an added touch of burgundy. All the textiles – headboards, carpets, curtains – are in the same palette.
In the restaurant, Luis García Fraile has managed to bring the outdoors in with wallpaper that evokes pine trees and palm trees achieving a sense of continuity between the interior and exterior.
FOOD AND DRINK
The place to be is the Roof Top Restaurant & Bar, designed as a bistro, with two panoramic views of the Colosseum and one of the Basilica dei SS Coronati.
Breakfast is served until 12:00 with a casual lunchtime offering and snacks available until 23.00. From 18.00 the evening menu specialises in fish sourced locally from the fishermen of the Riviera di Ulisse fishermen’s association.
With the opening of Mia, Room Mate Hotels is making a strong commitment to the Italian market, where it now has seven establishments.
