The John Lewis Partnership has struck a deal with Boden to allow customers to use the John Lewis click-and-collect service and collect online orders from selected Waitrose stores. While customers currently have the option of collecting purchases made on John Lewis’ website from Booths and Co-op shops, the new deal effectively sees the John Lewis Partnership provide access to its click-and-collect distribution network to third party retailers.
Initially in a trial phase, the pilot will be done with fashion retailer Boden, whereby customers can use John Lewis’ click-and-collect service to collect online purchases from 30 Waitrose stores across the UK. Boden orders placed by 7pm will be available for click-and-collect by the end of the next working day.
John Lewis Partnership said the was “potential” to extend the service to more retailers and brands. “We were one of the first to launch a click-and-collect service at scale in the UK and we’re pleased that the service will now be used by other businesses,” John Lewis operations director Bérangère Michel said.
“This is a great example of how we are combining the capabilities of John Lewis and Waitrose to deliver what retail needs, at a time when the sector is changing at an extraordinary pace.” – Boden chief customer officer Gav Thompson said: “We are so excited to be able to offer our customers click-and-collect at select Waitrose shops in time for Christmas. “This is a new way of shopping Boden and the perfect collaboration, designed around convenience and ease.”
John Lewis launched its click-and-collect service in 2008. The department store said that in the last five years alone, orders using the service have increased more than 50 per cent. It added that 57 per cent of all online orders are currently delivered through click-and-collect, with 25 per cent of those packages collected at John Lewis shops and 75 per cent at Waitrose shops.
