After shelving its 365 store concept, Whole Foods Market is converting some of the locations it had in the pipeline into full-fledged Whole Foods stores.
The Austin-based grocery chain still intends to lease 30,000 square feet within the Saltillo mixed-use development under construction east of I-35 between Fourth and Fifth streets. That’s according to Endeavor Real Estate Group LLC, the Austin-based developer of Saltillo, which in addition to retail space will have offices, hundreds of apartments and restaurants.
In an emailed statement, Endeavor Principal Jason Thumlert said: “We spoke with executives at Whole Foods and they remain committed to opening a full-line Whole Foods Market at Saltillo. Endeavor remains excited to bring a grocery store to the community.”
That’s good news for an area in need of more grocery options. And it’s worth noting that Endeavor has simplified the name of the development from Plaza Saltillo to just Saltillo.
