The much-anticipated Capital Mall mega-development has been given the green-light. The mall is planned to open in Pretoria during the second half of 2021.
The Pretoria West development is estimated to cost around R1.2 billion. In addition, the new will create more than 3 000 jobs in the area.
It will provide the focal point of the proposed ‘Capital City’, made up of approximately R5 billion of planned mixed-use developments. The developments form part of Gauteng’s R100 billion plan for 30 new city’s.
There was an appeal before the Tshwane Municipal Appeals Tribunal in April, to halt the development. That has subsequently been overturned, clearing the path for the development to commence.
The development of the mall will be phased. The first phase to be completed in 2021 will include 60 000 square metres. The design will enable the developers to easily add another 40 000 square metres in time.
