Co-Op launches pedal powered deliveries

The Co-op has launched a new pedal powered delivery service as it offers online deliveries via a dedicated website for the first time. With orders initially being fulfilled using zero emission electric cargo bikes, the service will enable shoppers to order products at shop.coop.co.uk, and receive delivery within two hours.

The service is available to shoppers who live within a four kilometre radius of the retailer’s store on London’s King’s Road but there are plans to roll it out to a further eight London stores.

Chris Conway, head of food digital at the Co-op, said: “This is an exciting time for the Co-op, with trials underway on a number of new, online initiatives. As the leaders in convenience shopping we want to look at different ways of bringing our award-winning products closer to shoppers, and this new service does exactly that.”

The service incurs a standard £5 delivery charge and customers must spend a minimum of £15 to use it. A free click and collect service is also available.
