Darjeeling Express Opens Doors to New Home on Rupert Street

Shaftesbury Capital has announced that award-wining Indian restaurant, Darjeeling Express, has now opened its doors to its new home on Rupert Street, at a gateway location between Soho and Chinatown London.

The new 5,600sq ft space at 36-40 Rupert Street sits amongst other well-loved, elevated restaurants, including The Palomar, Speedboat Bar and Evelyn’s Table, adding to Shaftesbury Capital’s diverse and high-quality brand mix. Darjeeling Express has moved to Rupert Street following success within Soho’s Kingly Court, allowing for an expanded service across more than 150 covers from lunch until dinner and supporting the late-night dining this part of Soho is famed for.

The pioneering all-female staffed Indian restaurant will continue to serve its regional-inspired homestyle Indian dishes including previous customer favourites, such as Kosha Mangsho, the restaurant’s Bengali-style slow-cooked mutton curry, Prawn Malaikari, Methi Chicken and Calcutta Kati Rolls, aligning with Chinatown’s reputation for authenticity and Soho’s uniqueness and innovation.

It features an open plan, modern design inspired by restaurants in Kolkata, with outdoor seating, a dedicated private dining space and a larger kitchen to cater for the restaurant’s ambitions to host events, celebrations and collaborations.

Emma Matus, Head of Restaurant Leasing at Shaftesbury Capital, commented: “This relocation from Kingly Court to Rupert Street reflects our dedication to supporting the strategic growth of popular, forward-thinking brands. The restaurants on Rupert Street create a transition between Soho and Chinatown and what they all have in common is the ability to marry innovation with authenticity and take flavour inspiration from across Asia. Darjeeling Express does that so well, a female-led restaurant with a unique take on regional Indian cuisine and we’re so proud to be part of their journey.”
