The upcoming giga-project in Saudi is set to become home to a new population of 100,000 and the aim is for more than 25 million visitors to attend annually.
The construction work has begun on the first phase of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority’s new $20bn giga-project in Riyadh. The upcoming scheme is part of Saudi’s Vision 2030 and will see seven square kilometres of Diriyah, which is situated 15 minutes north-west of Riyadh city centre transformed into one of the kingdom’s most prominent tourism destinations. The new site will also be a hub for culture and heritage, hospitality, retail and education.
Jerry Inzerillo, CEO, DGDA said: “We are overjoyed to take the first steps in our construction phase, moving from vision to reality. Diriyah Gate will become a global cultural and lifestyle hub; a place of great celebration and joy, and a powerhouse of Saudi culture and commerce.” Diriyah Gate is set to feature more than 20 hotels, a varied collection of museums, a retail heart and over 100 restaurants. The development also includes a series of outdoor plazas as well as a three kilometre walk that offers views across the historic Wadi Hanifah.
