The UAE has taken a decisive step toward building its own automotive brand with the unveiling of THEEB, a rugged SUV concept developed by K2 and revealed at Make it in the Emirates 2026 in Abu Dhabi.
The launch marks more than just a concept vehicle – it signals a broader ambition to establish a homegrown car brand designed specifically for Gulf conditions, rather than adapting models built for other markets.
For a country long associated with luxury imports and high-performance vehicles, THEEB represents a shift toward localised manufacturing, design and mobility innovation.
Speaking to Arabian Business, Omar Alqassim, Director of Partnerships and Acquisitions at K2, described the project as a response to a longstanding gap in the automotive sector.
“Vehicles in this region have always played a much bigger role than simple transportation,” Alqassim said. “They’re part of social life, family gatherings, desert exploration. Yet most of what we drive was never originally designed for this environment. We made a deliberate decision that this had to be designed in the UAE, not adapted for it – every element of THEEB starts from how people here actually live, drive and connect.”
THEEB – named after the Arabic word for wolf – draws heavily on regional identity. In desert culture, the wolf symbolises resilience, endurance and loyalty, qualities K2 aims to embed into both the vehicle’s engineering and its brand philosophy.
