Michelin-Starred Chishuru Unveils Refresh

Adejoké Bakare’s West African restaurant in Fitzrovia, the Michelin-starred Chishuru, has unveiled a slick redesigned dining room alongside a new menu to welcome spring.

For the new look, Joké has once again collaborated with interior designer and project manager Sasha Filskow to reflect its evolution since opening its permanent site in 2023.

The dining room has been carefully reimagined to create a more open and flexible setting. The number of tables has been reduced from seventeen to fourteen, accommodating a total of 42 covers, while the removal of booths allows for a more spacious feel and improved group dining.

Alongside the refurbishment, the new spring menu continues to tell the story of Chishuru – a Londoner by way of Nigeria – rooted in West African ingredients and shaped by three key cultural influences in Bakare’s life: her Yoruba father, Igbo mother and upbringing in the Hausa region of northern Nigeria.

Speaking on the new look, Adejoké Bakare comments: “Chishuru’s journey so far has been both exciting and fast-moving. As we look ahead, it feels important to continue to turn inward and consider how we can further tell our story while refining what we do, without removing the heart of it. At the same time, the growing recognition of West African dining and its strong evolution in recent years naturally feeds into these next steps. The vision from the very first supper club continues, shaped and supported by the whole team – across kitchen, operations and design. Since opening our permanent site in 2023, we’ve gently expanded our offering, introducing a lunch menu and now, the refreshed space. A sense of home remains central to everything we do, with the new design that is reflected in the art, ceramics and textured finishes that are woven into the fabric of Chishuru.”
