CHILLICOTHE – Patty Malone has wanted to own a store her whole life and now, she does.
Patty’s Primitives and Antiques officially opened Friday after a ribbon cutting ceremony at 126 East 4th Street. The shop will include a variety of products from eight local vendors who rent space at the store.
The official process started five weeks ago when a family friend saw Malone making crafts at home. He knew of a building that was looking to rent two rooms to a local business owner and passed the information along. The price was right and the workspace was perfect – so Malone jumped at the chance.
After a walkthrough, a few small construction projects and set up the store was ready for business.
Malone, who was previously a substitute teacher, felt that the opportunity to start her own business was a message from God. When she and her husband, Luther Malone Jr. were children, the heart of Chillicothe was in the historic district- where her store is located.
“We love the small town feel and history of downtown Chillicothe,” said Luther Malone Jr.
To Patty Malone, the business isn’t about making a lot of money but rather a chance to meet new people and spread a message of kindness.
“It’s an opportunity to bring love and add love to the town,” she said.
