New planning documents from Universal Orlando indicate the first major expansion of its recent launched Epic Universe theme park.
The park, which opened in May 2025 as a $7bn development, has already been positioned as one of the most technologically advanced and immersive attractions in the global theme park sector.
Filed with Orange County authorities, the new permits refer to “vertical construction” and classify the planned facility as a shop, restaurant, or warehouse. The proposed site is located between Epic Universe’s main entrance and the Super Nintendo World area. While the documents offer limited detail, the total project footprint is listed at just under 40,000sq ft.
Although Universal has not confirmed the function of the new space, the scale and location suggest it could serve as a future events venue, visitor preview centre, or seasonal programming hub. The flexibility of the classification implies that the space may be multipurpose, aligning with current trends in themed entertainment design that favour adaptable infrastructure.
This early-stage development follows the park’s debut and reflects Universal’s long-term commitment to growing its Orlando footprint. No construction timeline has been disclosed, but the permit signals intent to maintain momentum and diversify the guest offer within the newly operational park.
