Leading construction and civil engineering group, Webuild, has announced that it has secured new contracts worth $600M as part of the Diriyah Square project in Saudi Arabia.
The scope of work includes building cultural and commercial centre in Diriyah, the City of Earth. As home to the Unesco World Heritage Site of At Turaif, a cornerstone of the Diriyah project, it is located in the northwest of Riyadh and is destined to become one of the Kingdom’s key cultural and commercial hubs.
With this, the combined value of the projects awarded to Webuild by Diriyah Company in recent years to transform the ancient Saudi city, now stands at $2bn.
The new works, known as Package 3 finishing and MEP, involve the construction of more than 70 buildings and public spaces designed in line with traditional Nadji architecture principles to deliver a pedestrian-focused, unique retail and lifestyle destination within Diriyah Square, covering a total area of 365,000sq m.
Pietro Salini, Chief Executive of Webuild, said: “We are proud to be able to contribute to a project of such symbolic and strategic value for Saudi Arabia. Our presence in the Kingdom will be further strengthened by work that will have a positive impact on the area as well as the local community. We are enthusiastic about the prospect of developing this new phase of Diriyah Square, an important part of an iconic project,” stated Salini.
