Chipotle Plans Asia Expansion

The brand is set to enter Asia next year, opening its first restaurants in South Korea and Singapore through a joint venture with SPC Group.

“Given the familiarity of this iconic brand among Koreans and Singaporeans and their passion for exceptional culinary experiences, these two markets are ideal entry points for Chipotle in Asia,” said Heesoo Hur, Executive VP and Owner of SPC Group.

Chipotle is an American fast-casual chain known for customisable burritos, bowls, tacos and salads made with fresh ingredients. Customers select their fillings from an assembly line, creating a personalised meal.

“Expanding into Asia presents an incredible growth opportunity for Chipotle,” said Scott Boatwright, CEO of Chipotle. “Real food prepared fast is in high demand in these markets and with notable brand awareness among consumers; we see potential for strong adoption out of the gate.”

The partnership follows a series of international openings by Chipotle. In 2023, the company signed an agreement with Alshaya Group to open restaurants in the Middle East, where six locations are already operating across Kuwait and the UAE. Earlier this year, Chipotle announced a deal with Alsea to open its first restaurant in Mexico next year.

The company operates more than 3,800 restaurants globally and plans to open up to 345 new locations this year, with a long-term target of 7,000 in the US and Canada.
