FamilyMart is ramping up its expansion in Taiwan, with plans to open 100 new stores this year as it works toward a long-term goal of operating 5000 outlets by 2029.
The convenience store giant currently runs around 4400 locations nationwide. After adding 80 stores last year, it now expects to accelerate its rollout to approximately 150 stores annually in the coming years.
As part of its broader growth strategy, FamilyMart is refreshing its food offering to reflect changing consumer preferences. Citing local media outlet Taiwan News, the retailer is rolling out more customisable bento meals and expanding its selection of microwave-ready dishes, targeting on-the-go urban consumers and extending appeal beyond traditional meal times.
In addition, FamilyMart Taiwan will continue to maintain dining areas. The retailer sees them as a key part of the customer experience, encouraging dwell time, informal meetings, and add-on purchases.
FamilyMart first entered the Taiwan market in 1988, opening its debut store in Taipei Station’s shopping district. Operated by Taiwan FamilyMart Co, the brand is now one of the country’s leading convenience store chains, alongside 7-Eleven and Carrefour.
