Greene King, one of Britain’s oldest brewers, will be sold for £4.6bn to one of Hong Kong’s biggest conglomerates. CK Noble, part of the CK Hutchison group that owns Three mobile and Superdrug, has offered shareholders 850p-a-share, a premium of more than 50pc.
The approach marks the third multibillion-pound leisure sector takeover of the summer. Shares in the 220-year-old company soared 51pc after Greene King announced the deal to the stock market shortly before 4pm.
Chairman Philip Yea said the offer “represents a good opportunity for shareholders to realise value for their investment at an attractive premium” and was being unanimously recommended.
