French sporting goods chain Decathlon is finalizing the details for its landing in Buenos Aires, which would be its return to the Argentine market after an absence of two decades.
Decathlon, known for its wide range of sports products at affordable prices, is already in talks with the main shopping malls in Buenos Aires to decide where to establish its first store in the Argentine capital.
According to the Argentine newspaper La Nación, the first opening is planned before the end of 2025 and is part of a much broader expansion plan that includes between 20 and 30 branches throughout the country.
Decathlon has more than 1,700 stores in 78 countries. In South America, it operates directly in Brazil and Chile, while the branches in Uruguay and Paraguay are under the management of Grupo One.
This is not the first time that Decathlon has entered Argentina. In 2000, the chain opened its first store in the Soleil shopping centre in San Isidro. However, the economic crisis of 2002 thwarted its expansion plans and the company closed its operations in the country at the end of that year.
