Photographic retailer Jessops is showing its commitment to physical stores, with the launch of a new store concept on Oxford Street in London. The format is being rolled out to the rest of the chain. Jessops employs 500 staff across 51 stores.
The brand, owned by entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den participant Peter Jones CBE, worked with design agency Liberation to develop the store. Jessops has invested more than £1.8m in making ‘intelligent improvements’ to its stores over the last 12 months.
The new format positions the store as a destination for all things photographic, from personalised gifts designed with ‘smartphone snappers’ in mind, to cameras, accessories and experiences for photography enthusiasts.
“Retail can have a bright future, as long as you’re bright about your future. For us that meant taking a long, hard (and honest) look at where our business had come from, where it was heading and where we’d like it to be. We’re back to being the UK’s favourite high street camera retailer at a time when everyone has a camera on their phone,” says Jessops chief executive Neil Old.
