Matchesfashion CEO Ulric Jerome exits

Reports have emerged that the chief executive of Matchesfashion has departed the business after four years at the helm. The fashion retailer has not yet announced who will be the replacement.

Jerome first joined Matchesfashion in 2013 as chief operations officer before being promoted to chief executive officer in 2015. Around that time, Ruth and Tom Chapman – who both founded Matchesfashion in 1987 – became joint chairmen.

In 2017, a majority stake in the luxury fashion retailer was acquired private equity firm Apax Partners, prompting the Chapmans to step down as chairmen. In its financial year ending January 2018, Matchesfashion reported a 44 per cent surge in annual revenue £293 million, which was “driven by international expansion”.

Under Jerome’s tenure, Matchesfashion grew its ecommerce to account for 95 perc ent of revenue. Jerome also oversaw the investment of a 500,000sq ft distribution hub near Heathrow, to achieve its target of handling around four million shipments a year by 2020.
