Save the Duck, the Milanese brand specialising in sustainable parkas, has opened its first American flagship store in New York.
To celebrate the event, Loris Spadaccini, USA Director and General Manager of the brand, was present in the new space of approximately 140sq m, located on lower Broadway, to welcome the press and other VIP guests in the store, which features a giant orange duck, Save the Duck mascot, and is chock full of down jackets and parkas of all shapes and colours.
“We were the first Italian fashion brand to obtain B Corp certification in 2018. We are committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030,” said Spadaccini, underlining the sustainable aspects of the brand. “One jacket saves 25-30 ducks; the sad thing is that ducks are killed for breast hair only and not all of them are used for food.”
The store’s design echoes the brand’s eco-friendly materials, most notably the recycled plastic used for lighting and the natural rubber paint used in place of commercial, chemical-laden paints. Additionally, some building materials include the use of nylon made from recycled plastic.
