From the legendary Tati network to the pink vichy, there will soon be only one address: that of Barbès, in Paris, which housed the very first point of sale of the chain founded by Jules Ouaki in 1948.
The group Ginestet (Gifi, Tati, Besson …), which bought the low-cost textile brand in 2017 to the Eram group, announced on July 16 that 13 stores of the Tati network will be closed, that 49 others will switch under Gifi brand and that some 30 points of sale are currently the subject of a sign creation project by group executives.
Above all, this drastic restructuring will lead to the establishment of a plan to safeguard employment. 189 posts are concerned. “To finalize this evolution of the network, some administrative functions, purchasing and logistics, will be reduced,” announces the group to 9,500 employees (including 1,200 for Tati), adding that reclassification measures will be possible. 189 posts are concerned.
To justify the almost disappearance of Tati, Philippe Ginestet calls into question the poor health of the textile market in France: “The textile” low price “remains a difficult market in France with increased competition and the impact of the crisis of yellow vests retail is significant, as all studies highlight (Xerfi, Senate report …). In this context, the GIFI network performs with a wide range of products that meet the expectations of consumers (oriented on the house and the bazaar, Ed), while Tati, in its current configuration as that network, suffers and continues to show losses.
The group also details a sign creation project by a group of executives of the group. Thus 30 stores have been selected within the Tati branches to launch this chain which will be part of destocking. The name of this one is not disclosed, but it will be based on a complementary Web because it will be question of practicing the “drop-shipping”, which designates a “tripartite system where the customer places an order on the Internet site from the distributor, who transmits it to the supplier for delivery and inventory management “.
Founded in 1981, the Ginestet group totals 845 stores to date and, despite this announcement, maintains its intention to reach the mark of 1,000 points of sale by 2027. It has recorded an overall turnover of 1.4 billion euros in its 2017/18 financial year ended September 30, up 4.9%
