Tesco has confirmed it is axing the first Jack’s store a year after unveiling the discount chain. The store which is located in Rawtenstall, East Lancashire, was opened earlier this year. It will be replaced with a 40,000sq ft Tesco store instead, following a demand from customers.
‘We are really pleased to be bringing Tesco back to Rawtenstall in time for Christmas. We have listened to customer feedback and look forward to serving customers in the refreshed store.’ – Tesco UK chief executive Jason Tarry said. Meanwhile, all Jack’s employees will be transferred over to Tesco with new additional roles. The Big 4 grocer currently has 10 Jack’s stores in the UK.
The discount chain was announced last September by chief executive Dave Lewis, with the agreement that it would open between 10 to 15 stores in the UK within six months in a bid to compete against German discounters Aldi and Lidl.
