The flagship store is made of repurposed shipping containers.
Continuing Starbuck’s 30-year long history of sustainability and its commitment to recycling, the new location fits the company’s ‘Starbucks Greener Stores’ initiative which is planned to be a ‘framework to design, build and operate sustainable stores.’ The flagship, which marks the brands 800th location in the city, is located at Shanghai’s Wisdom Bay Science Innovation Park and has assisted the city of Shanghai in setting a new record in holding the most Starbucks than any other city in the world.
Shanghai’s Wisdom Bay Science Innovation Park was formerly home to warehouses and container storage yards, however today the existing cargo containers have been converted into office spaces and now the brands new location.
The store has been modelled off Japanese architect Kengo Kuma’s design which was first launched into a concept store in Taiwan.
