Aldi Announces Plans for New Stores

The supermarket chain plans to open 100 new stores in the UK, creating 4000 new jobs.

The discount supermarket has continued to see their profits rise despite the uncertainty that the Covid-19 pandemic created for many retailers. This can be attributed to the fact that the supermarket committed to keeping its prices the lowest in the market. The company has seen their profits surge by 49 per cent in the year and it is expected that Aldi will have invested £1.3bn into the new stores by the end of next year.

The investment is expected to contribute towards the supermarket’s larger plans of long-term growth that will see them up their store locations from 894 to 1200 by 2025. It is also expected that the money will be used to upgrade their existing stores, distribution centres and innovation across its operations, including the launch of their click and collect initiative which is currently in its trial stages.
