The system will use palm recognition to provide a fast and convenient way to purchase items.
The online giant will utilise the new payment system, called Amazon One, in its Amazon Go retail locations. An alternative to other biometric identifies such as fingerprint of facial recognition, Amazon One utilises customers ‘unique palm signatures’. Customers will be able to use the palm-waving system in participating Amazon Go locations as an option for shoppers to utilise.
Dilip Kumar, Amazon Vice President explains how the technology in Amazon One works: “No two palms are alike, so we analyse all these aspects with our vision technology and select the most distinct identifiers on your palm to create your palm signature.”
He continues, explaining that the system is: “a quick, reliable, and secure way for people to identify themselves or authorise a transaction while moving seamlessly through their day.”
