Aldi to Launch Larger Store Concept in Philadelphia

The grocery retailer is planning to open a 25,000sq ft store in Philadelphia in November.

Aldi has been exploring with different store sizes. Their stores are typically 16,400sq ft with 10,000sq ft of this dedicated to selling space. The company explains that their modest store size is one of the many reasons that it is so positively welcomed by communities. The flexibility of Aldi and their ability to execute new store formats makes them a key player in the grocery game, and the retailer hopes that this new location will be as equally successful as their other stores in America.

The new store in Philadelphia will be located on the ground-floor of a 14-storey mixed-use tower. The store will be stocked with Aldi’s well-known and loved discounted grocery products and a fresh food section that is 40 per cent larger than most other Aldi locations.

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the grocery chain has continued to execute their expansion plan in the United States. Earlier in the year, Aldi announced that they would open 70 new stores this year, with one of these being in Arizona – a market that the retailer is not yet operating in. The brand recently surpassed a store count of 2000.
