The news comes following recent advancements in the company’s robotic warehousing capabilities, allowing the brand to deal better with their operations.
Tim Steiner, Chief Executive Officer at Ocado has commented that although Ocado’s focus will continue to be on grocery items, the company’s recent investment in two tech firms from the US has helped the firm improve the speed and the scope of robot-picking, thus in turn lending itself to the ability to expand their operations.
These two tech firms are Kindred Systems which Ocado is purchasing for £203M and Haddington Dyanmic for £19.3M.
Steiner comments: “The main here is productivity. Given the market opportunity, we want to accelerate the development of our systems, including improving their speed, accuracy, product range and economics.”
He continues: “I am also excited by the opportunity to enter new markets for robotic solutions outside of grocery that is demonstrated by Kindred Systems’ robust growth, with existing customers such as Gap and American Eagle across the general merchandise and logistics sectors.”
