The sports retailer is reportedly interested in acquiring the classic British department store in its entirety.
Debenhams fell into a ‘light touch’ administration in April of this year for the second time in 12 months. Lazard was appointed in the summer to explore future options for the department store chain, including searching for a new owner.
A number of companies have been interested in becoming the owner of Debenhams; including JD Sports rival Sports Direct’s Frasers Group who stepped out of the race as they couldn’t match the £300M price tag as advised by the group advisers.
JD Sports have now entered talks with Lazard to acquire the whole business including 12,000 staff and 124 stores.
