Co-op Trials Refill Station

The Lichfield Store in Central England is trialling a new concept that allows customers to bring their own containers in an effort to promote sustainability and reduce the use of food packaging.

The grocery brand has partnered with Suma Wholefoods to create a zero waste refill station with customers able to purchase items such as oats, porridge, rice and dried fruits. If the company receives positive feedback from the trial, the concept would be rolled out to 262 stores.

Hannah Gallimore, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Central England Co-Op, commented: “As a responsible business, we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment and doing so in new and innovative ways. We are delighted to have launched our first-ever zero waste refill station as we know that it will something that will appeal to our customers and members.”

This refill station concept is the first of a number of trials that the company is rolling out with others including a scan and go payment and two eco-friendly home delivery options powered by mobile apps.
