Joining two other showrooms in Hong Kong and Taipei, the new Shanghai showroom is located on Yuanmingyuan Road and is open for private appointments only.
The new showroom was designed by infamous artists – Dutch architect Tom Postma and French-Swedish sculptor Ingrid Donat. Described as a ‘maison’ the space consists of just one wall-mounted display case for Chao’s jewels, with the rest of the space designed to appear as a peaceful and comfortable environment.
Initially, Chao had planned to build her third showroom in London; however the global pandemic has halted these plans and with a new normal still not in sight, Chao decided to bring this maison to Shanghai.
Chao commented: “The China market is booming. Art fairs held in the country this year were well attended with collectors from everywhere in China. The galleries sold out of pieces. The dynamic is good. That’s why we shifted to Shanghai first.”
