The Gap Quits Toronto’s Mink Mile

The storefronts of two Gap locations and one Banana Republic store are all being taken down on Mink Mile, Toronto’s upscale shopping district.

Banana Republic first opened their store on the Mink Mile in 1995 and was later joined by two Gap stores, one in 1999 and one in 2012. This is now the first time in more than 20 years that the brand does not boast a storefront on the prestigious location.

The Gap has been badly impacted by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and has made a number of store closures as a result of this. The three empty store locations will now need to be leased to new tenants.  One space has been leased, filling around 2,000sq ft. The Gap store on Bloor St. occupied an area of around 17,000sq ft while the Banana Republic store was around 6,500sq ft.

The brand commented that although they were making a number of store closures, they would be investing in and remaining committed to their online business and growing this to meet changing consumer demands.
