Property developer, The Reef Group has been granted permission to transform the iconic Oxford store into a new luxury hotel.
Boswell & Co is Oxford’s oldest department store and has been present in the city since 1738. After closing last year after the first national lockdown in the UK, Oxford City Council’s west area planning committee have no given The Reef Group to transform the property into a new four-star boutique hotel.
The hotel will feature 101 hotel rooms, a gym, a restaurant and bar and a new rooftop terrace that will ‘allow guests to enjoy Oxford’s landmarks and open up views to the historic skyline’. Guests will also be able to take advantage of a hot desk office space, which will be ideal for those people working from home.
According to Committee Member Councillor, Louise Upton, the plans “were exactly the sort of development we need to keep our city centre alive.”
