The Swedish furnishings retailer is looking to bring a multi-tiered network of stores to urban locations and neighbourhood areas.
Looking to create an Ikea for the future, the globally-renowned furnishings brand is breaking away from its one size fits all 500,000sq ft store format and intends to offer three different formats that each provide new solutions depending on customer demand.
The new store formats include a smaller Ikea which will be located in urban areas. These smaller locations will occupy an area of around 100,000sq ft and will include a showroom and a marketplace area that features the products. Much smaller stores, occupying an area of around 5,000 – 10,000sq ft will be launched in centre city neighbourhoods and will be dedicated to kitchen, bath and home design.
Ikea will not be saying goodbye to their traditional store format – these will continue to play a significant role in Ikea’s US strategy.
