The iconic toy retailer has permanently shuttered their last two store locations in the U.S.
According to a spokesperson from the company the continuous impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic were the cause for the store closures; however the company remains confident in their brand and offering, with the spokesperson commenting: “Consumer demand in the toy category and for Toys R Us remains strong and we will continue to invest in the channels where the customer wants to experience our brand.”
The onset and lasting impacts of the Covid-19 virus has seen many consumers pivot their spending habits, favouring online above all else and as a result mall based retailers have suffered exceptionally.
Tru Kids, the entity that acquired Toys R Us’ intellectual property in 2018 is still running the Toys R Us website which guides customers to Amazon where they can complete the purchase and it will also continue to license the brand globally.
