New Covid Restrictions Implemented for Dubai Hospitality Sector

The new measures which will run until to the end of February have been implemented by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management.

The new precautionary measures will impact hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and entertainment venues as the city continues to fight the spread of the Coronavirus. According to a release by Dubai Media Office, hotels must operate at a maximum of 70 per cent capacity for the rest of the month. Shopping malls must also operate at 70 per cent; restaurants and cafes must close by 1am while pubs and bars are not permitted to open at all for the rest of February.

Indoor seated venues such as cinemas and sports venues must adhere to a 50 per cent reduction in capacity and swimming pools and privates beaches must also be limited to 70 per cent of normal capacity.

The committee has clarified that there will be tougher penalties for ‘deliberately disregarding’ the measures although it has not yet been confirmed what the penalties will be. Monitoring and inspection campaigns will be intensified and safety protocols including wearing masks and social distancing must be adhered to.
