The restaurant chain’s new owners, Cain International, have confirmed that 22 restaurants are set to close, impacting 216 jobs.
Cain International acquired Prezzo in December of last year when the company filed for insolvency after failing to reach an agreement with landlords over rent payments. Now, Cain International are looking for a way to secure Prezzo’s future and has commented that this action will protect the vast majority of Prezzo’s team members, of which there is nearly 3,000.
Jonathan Goldstein, Chief Executive of Cain, commented: “We are deeply sorry for all those affected by the permanent closures of the 22 non-viable restaurants. It was a difficult, but essential, decision to take but doing so will allow us to save thousands of jobs and create more in the future.”
Currently, all of the brands 178 restaurants are closed due to the latest wave of UK lockdowns, however Cain International remains optimistic for the future with Goldstein adding: “We firmly believe that strong hospitality businesses, such as Prezzo, have a bright future and will play an essential role in reviving the UK economy.”
