Selfridges Launches Upcycled Denim Capsule

The capsule, which has sustainability at its heart, has been created in collaboration with luxury shoe label Christian Louboutin.

Sustainability is a key theme very much at the forefront of the retail industry, with consumers more and more interested in circular fashion and the idea of upcycling, recycling and second hand, key players within retail are exploring new and innovative ways to support the sustainability initiative. Two such players are Selfridges and Louboutin who have collaborated on an upcycled denim capsule. According to the companies, the collection is a ‘melding of the 90s-inspired styled and repurposed materials.’

The capsule is currently only available online due to the current lockdown restrictions in the UK. It offers pieces for both women and men that have been inspired by signature Louboutin styles. Each of the pieces are made from upcycled denim, complete with original jeans pocket detailing.

Louboutin commented: “Everybody has old jeans they dream of keeping, but the shape could be dated, it’s always a complicated decision to get rid of your old jeans. I was really excited to work Selfridges on Project Earth and its aim to reinvent retail, by giving denim jeans another life and reducing waste. Supporting upcycling was really interesting, I wanted to reimagine jeans as a wardrobe staple for your feet.”
