Payless Opens First Brick-and-Mortar Concept Store

The redesigned retail concept is located in the heart of Miami and comes two years after Payless filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, causing them to close their 2,000 store locations.

The new store boasts around 10,000 products including accessories, apparel and footwear. Moving from the traditional bricks-and-mortar format, Payless have sought to create an immersive, omni-channel retail experience by integrating traditional shopping with high-tech elements including interactive touchscreens and augmented reality capabilities.

Looking to enhance the customer experience further, the new store will also provide a number of personalised experiences such as the AR foot measurement chart and floor deal, which consists of 16 individual 3D animated characters and 16 2D animal footprints alongside a photo feature with save function.

Jared Margolis, Chief Executive Officer of Payless, commented: “The traditional brick-and-mortar storefront isn’t going anywhere, but recent times have demanded the need for a new 360-degree immersive retail experience. Our plan has always been to make a comeback for our US consumers with brand new smart and strategic retail locations that are also in line with our omni-channel strategy.”
