Saudi Arabia’s AlUla Airport to Receive International Flights Following Expansion

International flights to and from the country are currently suspended as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, but are expected to resume in May.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has now announced the approval to start receiving international flights at AlUla International Airport. The announcement comes following a major expansion of AlUla Airport which has seen it become the fifth largest airport in the Kingdom. The airport’s capacity has tripled, meaning it can now receive 15 commercial flights at any one time.

The development of the airport is a key element of RCU’s strategy to elevate AlUla to become a global destination for heritage, culture, history and natural tourism. The strategy intends to attract as many as two million visitors each year, contributing to raising the Kingdom’s GDP by SR120M by 2035.
