The airport has recorded a 69 per cent decrease in passengers that passed through the airport in 2020 in comparison to the same period for the previous year.
Sharjah Airport handled 4.2 million passengers last year, a huge decrease from 13.6 million passengers handled the previous year. The Covid-19 pandemic caused extensive airport closures and reduced services and The Sharjah Airport Authority stated that aircraft movement recorded more than 33,200 flights.
The figures were announced yesterday in an annual management meeting and the team reviewed their plans and programmes already in place for the airport. Last year, the airport completed its East Expansion project, extending 4,000sq m. The integrated building spans two floors and includes four new gates to assist in the movement of passengers.
