The doughnut company has confidentially filed paperwork related to a public offering of its stock with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Krispy Kreme has now taken the first step in returning to the public arena. The number of shares that will be offered and their price range has not yet been determined but the IPO is expected to happen after the SEC completes its review.
The brand previously went public in 2000, but has to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following financial restatements and falling sales at a number of its franchises. The brand went private in 2019 after being purchased by JAB Holding Company, whose portfolio also consists of other F&B brands including Panera Bread, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Caribou Coffee Company, Einstein Noah Restaurant Group and more.
The move comes as the brand intends to expand its footprint in New York City. Last September, the brand opened a new 4,500sq ft flagship store in Times Square. The flagship offers an exciting preview into the doughnut-making process from start to finish, including the brand’s iconic glaze ‘waterfall’.
