The coffee chain is supposedly ready to launch stores inside Tesco supermarkets as part of a trial in an effort to broaden its appeal.
The company’s Chief Executive Pano Christou has said that he would like to “bring Pret to the people” with this soon-to-launch trial partnership. The first of these will launch in June at the Tesco site in Kensington, West London, with a further four to follow in the summer.
Set to be run as concessions that are run by Pret rather than Tesco, the Tesco sites will serve food freshly prepared in an on-site kitchen as well as coffee and teas prepared by baristas.
The new move by Pret comes amidst several expansion drives, including rolling out frozen croissants and granolas in Tesco stores and a new £20-a-month subscription, which gives customers up to five coffees a day in an effort to attract more custom.
Christou said the Tesco partnership was part of Pret’s response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw a sharp decline in commuters into London in particular, due to lockdowns.
