Already a major market, China plans to become a ‘museum powerhouse’ by 2035 by developing outstanding museums with Chinese features and attractions.
The plans have come about through a document released earlier this week. Entitled ‘Guiding Opinions on Promoting Reform and Development of Museums’ and was released by the National Cultural Heritage Administration.
It focuses on 10 to 15 museums that represent Chinese culture. It aims to enhance the museums and their appeal to Chinese visitors, reports CGTN. Chinese museums have been busy upgrading and renovating their facilities, also protecting cultural relics and accelerating research in a bid to become the world’s top institutions.
However, the document reveals that there is room for improvement when it comes to museum development in China, in areas including development orientation, systemic layout and functional utilisation.
China will also implement a ‘Museums of Excellence Development Plan’, which involves developing major museums in China according to local conditions and promoting smaller institutions across the country.
Meanwhile, the Museum of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is opening in Beijing, according to the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA). The Museum of the Communist Party of China will host an exhibition on the history of the CPC from June 2021.
