Selfridges Owners Mull £4bn Sale

Various reports have revealed that the Weston family is in consultation with advisers from Credit Suisse to explore a potential sale after receiving an unsolicited bid.

The sale would include major branches in cities such as Manchester and Birmingham as well as Brown Thomas and Arnotts in Ireland. The sale price also reportedly includes £2bn in property assets including the brand’s historic flagship store on London’s Oxford Street.

The Weston family, who also control Primark, and has a net worth of £11bn in the latest Sunday Times Rich List, have brought in advisers from Credit Suisse to assist them in exploring the offer and opportunity as it is expected that this bid is likely to shine a light on other potential buyers.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, it is believed that the potential buyer could be from China of the Middle East, as Qatar Holdings acquired Harrods back in 2010.
