New Debenhams owner Boohoo is planning to bring the brand back to the high street with one small store outside of London.
As part of its plans for Debenhams, Boohoo is attempting to strike deals with major beauty brands. It bought Debenhams out of administration for £55M and has turned it into an online-only operation earlier this year.
Speaking to The Times this week, Boohoo Group Chief Executive John Lyttle said some beauty brands had refused to supply products to Debenhams unless it had a physical store presence.
Companies such as Benefit, Elizabeth Arden and Ralph Lauren do continue to supply to the online-only operating Debenhams, but the website for now does not operate make-up brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel, who in the past both sold in the Debenhams’ department stores.
Lyttle said the firm was now in talks about opening one small Debenhams shop outside of London, but insisted it would be “one store and one store only”, and the potential location was not given.
