McDonald’s to Open New UK Restaurants

The fast food giant has announced that it is looking to hire 20,000 people and open 150 new restaurants across the UK and Ireland.

The fast food chain intends to employ a number of additional staff and set up 50 new franchises in locations across the country over the next 12 months. A further 100 stores will follow in the next two years.

Paul Pomroy, UK Chief Executive, commented: “It’s fantastic to be able to offer an additional 20,000 people an opportunity to work with us. There is no doubt the pandemic has had a huge impact on many people’s employment opportunities and threatened the future of high streets up and down the country.”

Pomroy did explain that the additional roles are not to replace the jobs lost throughout the pandemic. The company intends to open more regional locations to help struggling high streets.

The first new McDonalds outlet will open in Reading this month and a further two stores will open in Stratford and Oxford in the second half of the year.
