The iconic sportswear brand continues to bet on physical retail, with plans announced to open a new flagship on Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona.
Adidas intends to open the new flagship store in the first half of 2022 and it will be one of the brand’s largest spaces in Spain, acting as one of the brand’s ‘benchmark’ destinations in Europe. The brand has rented a 2,300sq m premises from the Catalana Occidence group. The building itself is a modernist building designed in 1890 by architect, Enric Sagnier I Vallavecchia.
In 2017, the Catalana Occidente group began to reform this building, with a total planned investment of €35M. The group aims to turn it into a key space for the city’s office and retail segment. Its total area will reach 9,300sq m and its remodelling is expected to be complete in the first half of 2022.
The brand already operates in Spain with its own stores, through franchises and through outlet stores. Its items are also distributed through e-commerce and multi-brand stores and marketplaces.
