Fraser’s Group is set to open the stores in two former Debenhams units, with a debut in Cork and Kildare in 2022.
The new stores will be located in the Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork and Whitewater Shopping Centre in Kildare, with the company saying that a significant number of jobs will be created through the new locations.
For companies such as Frasers that are undergoing expansion, vacant department stores are perfect given their large size, a perfect solution for landlords who are finding the space difficult to fill. The Frasers Department store chain is still in its infancy, with the first location launched in Wolverhampton’s Mander Centre in the UK this spring. The company clearly sees a potential for the concept, particularly with other department store giants such as John Lewis downsizing their portfolio.
The new sites will house hundreds of brands covering categories from fashion to beauty, accessories and kidswear. Sport will continue to be a key factor for the company, with a Sports Direct set to be located within both sites.
