The new green plaza will consist of 1.1km of walkways and plenty of green space close to Al Qubib Masjid.
The design has been inspired by Qatari heritage and is meant to revive the idea of the Masjid’s classic courtyard where people can meet after prayer and talk about their daily lives. The floors of the plaza have been inspired by the decorations and inscriptions from traditional carpets and outfits.
The plaza will be home to 1.1km of walkways as well as 1,518sq m of green open spaces, a distinctive central fountain, and plenty of local plants and trees.
Work has begun on the project and it should be completed by the end of March next year the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar has revealed. The committee is tasked with creating public parks, developing the Doha Corniche, increasing green areas and tree count and building dedicated pedestrian and bike lanes.
