The brand has seen a huge period of growth in Canada over the past three years, opening 100 locations across the country in the same period.
Popeyes opened their first location in Canada in 1984, marking its very first international market outside of the US. This store was located in Toronto and up until 2016; there were only locations in Ontario, prior to this Popeye’s was solely a Toronto-based brand. Today however, there are just over 260 Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen locations across Canada.
Looking to the future for the brand, Robert Manuel, General Manager in Canada, believes that there is still tremendous room for growth within the country. He says: “What market research tells us is there’s still increasing demand from Canadians and because we’re not coast to coast today and still somewhat under-penetrated in a lot of Western Canada, we still think we’ve got a fair amount of runway ahead of us for growth.”
The company intends to continue adding more new locations this year, factoring in location, traffic count, visibility and population density into their site selection.
